Denali Sales Grads on Early Path to Racing Victory
Friday, July 6, 2018

Denali Sales Grad RIDE A COMET, a 3-year old colt by Candy Ride out of Appealing Zophie, and half-brother to Belmont Stakes winner Tapwrit, won the 2018 Charlie Barley Stakes at Woodbine on June 30th, the colt’s fourth career win for his owners John Oxley and breeder My Meadowview. It was Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse’s sixth Charlie Barley win as the 2-1 favorite took the lead at the top of the turn, ultimately winning by 2 ¾  lengths with jockey Patrick Husbands aboard. Ride a Comet beat El Tormenta after finding a small window from the back of the pack with a furlong to go. He now boasts earnings of $131,856 after his first stakes win. Foaled and raised at Denali Stud, Ride a Comet was a $45K RNA as a yearling at the 2016 Keeneland September Sale.

Another Denali Sales Grad, RESTLESS RIDER, a 2-year-old filly by Distorted Humor out of the Unbridled’s Song mare Silky Serenade, won the 118th running of the Debutante Stakes on June 30th by an impressive 11 ¼  lengths at Churchill Downs. Jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. rode her for the win under trainer Kenny McPeek. She brought home the winning title for owners Three Chimneys Farm LLC and Fern Circle Stables on the closing day of the Spring Meet. Restless Rider swiftly recovered after a setback when the leading horse Payntermaniac was pulled up in front, causing Restless Rider to check back. The mishap didn’t stop her from pulling an amazing recovery at the stretch. She accomplished the largest win margin in the race’s history since 1977’s Sweet Little Lady’s 11 lengths, and tripled her earnings to $91,360. Restless Rider broke her maiden just days prior on June 8th by 2 ¾ lengths, also at Churchill Downs. With this being only her second start, we are excited to see what she accomplishes in the future! Bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, Restless Rider was offered at the 2017 Keeneland September Sale and purchased by trainer Kenny McPeek for $150,000.
