Denali Stud will be offering twelve yearling prospects at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected Yearling Sale in New York August 6th and 7th. This sale is known as one of the thoroughbred industry’s premier auctions. In recent years Denali Stud has sold million dollar sale toppers such as Grade 1 Belmont Stakes Champion TAPWRIT for $1.2 million in 2015. We followed in 2016 with a $1.45 million Medaglia d’Oro filly, Whisper to Mama, and in 2017 a colt by Hall of Famer Curlin out of the mare River’s Prayer, who co-topped the sale at $1 million. With a track record of Saratoga success, we look forward to this year’s sale and some more “Saturday Afternoon Horses.”
This year, we are pleased to present to you:
HIP 2, a gray or roan filly by Liam's Map out of the Grade 1 winning Put It Back mare, Jessica Is Back
Although this filly’s sire Liam’s Map only had eight career starts, he went out on top as a Breeders’ Cup Champion by winning the G1 Dirt Mile and setting a new track record. He was sold for $800,000 at the 2012 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, and comes from the family of Miss Macy Sue, a G3 winning and track record setting mare who’s female family traces back to Aspidistra, the foundation mare responsible for Dr. Fager and Unbridled. His pedigree also contains strains from one of the best female sprinters in history, Ta-We.
This filly's dam, Jessica Is Back, broke through at the top level when winning the G1 Princess Rooney Handicap. A hard knocking mare who hit the board 30 times in 48 starts, she is sure to pass along durability to her offspring.
HIP 2, Jessica Is Back
HIP 57, a dark bay/brown filly by Sky Mesa out of the Maria's Mon mare, No Use Denying
This filly’s sire, Sky Mesa, has G1 winners on every surface, 63 lifetime black-type winners out of 122 black-type horses, and over $51 million in progeny earnings. Some of his 2018 stakes winners include Sweet Bye and Bye, recently undefeated in her four starts, Leadem In Ken, Just Be Kind, and Sky Writer.
The dam of hip 57, No Use Denying, was a stakes winner herself with four foals of racing age, including three winners. This filly’s pedigree traces back to Champion filly and filly triple- crown winning, Chris Evert, and this filly is herself a half-sister to G2-placed Noble Thought.
HIP 82, a bay filly by Into Mischief out of the Warrior's Reward mare, Reve D’ Amour.
This filly is by the red- hot Into Mischief, who has produced horses such as Goldencents, Practical Joke, and Audible. Into Mischief also sired TDN rising star Instagrand, who blew away the field in his first start by 10 lengths for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer this year.
This filly is the mare’s second foal. Her first foal, Princesse Rafaela, is placed at 2. Hip 82 is a 3/4 sister to exciting young stallion prospect and Grade 3 winner Can The Man.
HIP 82, Reve d' Amour
HIP 123, a dark bay/brown colt by Bodemeister out of the Victory Gallop mare, Swingit
Bodemeister continues to be a stallion in demand, siring 2017 Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming, along with exciting 2018 sprinter American Anthem.
Swingit is a great producer with her four foals of racing age all being winners, including the always consistent Neolithic, who placed in both the G1 Pegasus World Cup and G1 Dubai World Cup. Neolithic was purchased in 2014 at the Keeneland September Sale for $460,000 by Starlight from the Denali Stud consignment. His earnings total $2,278,028 from twelve starts.
