Denali Stud is pleased to have sold the second highest priced yearling at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton July Yearling Sale. Hip 231, a bay filly by exciting second-crop sire Strong Mandate out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Fly The Flag, brought a final bid of $435,000, making her the top- priced filly in the sale. Alex and JoAnn Lieblong purchased the yearling, who comes from a very successful female family. Her dam is a half-sister to Champion Storm Flag Flying, and Stakes winner and producer With Flying Colors. This is also the family of undefeated Champion and Broodmare of the Year Personal Ensign. The filly was raised in Kentucky by Winstar Farm, and consigned by Craig and Holly Bandoroff, Denali Stud agent.

Conrad Bandoroff of Denali Stud said WinStar general manager David Hanley had originally recommended putting the Strong Mandate filly in the July sale, the first and one of the smaller yearling sales of the season where she would have the best chance of standing out. "She was a gorgeous filly and the right guys lined up on her," Bandoroff said. "She is a beautiful physical. She has residual value. We told people you pick up black type and she's worth a lot of money. She showed fantastic every single time. She was professional. People want quality and I think today demonstrated that." -

We thank the buyers and wish them the best of luck, as we will be watching for her in the winner’s circle in the future!

Denali Stud also sold Hip 207, a flashy chestnut colt by Will Take Charge out of the Divine Park mare Divine Trick. The colt was purchased for $230,000 by St. Elias Stables and John Frassetto, J J CRUPI, agent. This is the first foal for the mare who comes from the family of Check The Label, and multiple Grade 1 winner Include Me Out. The colt’s sire, Will Take Charge, won five graded stakes, and has his first crop of two-year-olds to race in 2018.
