Denali Stud is proud to follow our wonderful horses that we foaled, raised and sold as they advance in their racing careers! This past weekend, we had some great first Graded stakes wins from our very own RIDE A COMET and YOU’RE TO BLAME. Congratulations to the owners and all their connections!
RIDE A COMET earned his first Graded stake win in the G2 Del Mar Derby this past Sunday, September 2nd. This is his fifth win in 10 starts, increasing his earnings to $305,856. After a good break from the gate under jockey Drayden Van Dyke, he waited for room to run and finally got that chance coming off the far turn entering the stretch. He took down River Boyne in the final furlong and won the race by 1 ½ lengths. Van Dyke said, “He warmed up really well and gave me confidence. During the race it all came up perfect. Good trip all the way. When I swung him out, he gave me a big kick. I knew right then we were going to win it.” (Bloodhorse.com)

The son of Candy Ride, out of the Successful Appeal mare Appealing Zophie, is owned by John Oxley and My Meadowview Farm, and trained by Mark Casse. He’s a half- brother to Denali Sales Grad and Grade 1 Belmont Stakes winner Tapwrit. Ride a Comet was foaled and raised at Denali Stud and offered for sale in the Keeneland September 2016 auction, but he was bought back by his breeder for a bargain $45K and retained for racing.

YOU’RE TO BLAME, another Denali-Raised Sales Grad, also achieved his first Graded stakes win in the G3 Greenwood Cup S. at Parx on Monday, September 3rd. The $400,000 Keeneland September 2015 graduate went to post with 4/1 odds with jockey Paco Lopez aboard. You’re to Blame cut to the inside and barreled down the stretch to upset the 3/5 favorite War Story and crossed the wire by a neck. The rest of the field came in far behind the dueling pair.
