3YO GLOBAL POWER WINS AT BELMONT
Raised and sold by Denali, the son of Pulpit took a 7f maiden special weight in 1:22 3/5 in his second career start. Global Power is out of the Storm Cat mare Hidden Cat and was bred by Hidden Creek Farm. After closing ground down the lane in his April 3 debut at Gulfstream and finishing second by ¾ of a length, bettors hammered him down to 3-5 for his second start. Up to press the pace from second, he gained the lead as they nit the three-eighths pole. Firster Bold Warrior (Bernardini) grabbed the advantage as they approached the stretch, and held onto the lead until the eighth pole, but Global Power battled on gamely despite racing on his left lead down the lane, taking over in the waning yards en route to a ¾-length tally. Denali sold the Chad Brown trainee at the 2009 Keeneland September sale for $230,000. He races for the Gary & Mary West Stables.
