BIRDRUN IS THE LATEST GRADED STAKES WINNER FOR DENALI SALES

Birdrun led from start to finish going 1 ½ miles at Belmont Park to win the Brooklyn H.-G2. In doing so he beat last year’s Belmont winner, Drosselmeyer, who finished second three lengths back after being on nearly even terms at the top of the stretch. But the result was dream scenario for trainer Bill Mott, who sent out both horses in the five horse field.

“He broke and got right into his stride,” jockey Rajiv Maragh said. “I just wanted to do what he was comfortable doing. I didn’t want to overdo it. He got into his pace and kept going.”

Birdrun is owned by Preston Stables and has won six times in 19 starts, he also has three wins and three seconds in six starts at Belmont. Denali sold Birdrun for his breeder Bridlewood Farm at the 2006 Fasig-Tipton November sale for $95,000.
