DENALI FOALED AND RAISED BRIGANTIN CAPTURES GROUP II

Team Valor bred the 4-year-old son of Cozzene in partnership with Mme A Fabre and Denali Stud and Partners. Out of the Poliglote mare Banyu Dewi he races for Team Valor.

Left in the lead after Mashoor had run out early in the race, young Pierre-Charles Boudot set a sedate pace on Brigantin before quickening in the home straight, holding the late thrust of Dunaden by inches.

Successful in last year’s Group III Prix de Lutece, when he quickened from last to first in the home straight, the chestnut is one of 29 Graded/Group winners by Cozzene, eight of whom have triumphed at the highest level. North America’s champion turf horse of 1985 and champion sire in 1996, Cozzene died in October 2008 aged 28.

Brigantin is the second foal of the listed Kronimus-Rennen victress Banyu Dewi, who finished runner-up in Germany’s premier event for juvenile fillies, the Gr. 3 Preis der Winterkonigin, and third in the Gr. 2 Long Island H.

By Sadler’s Wells’ son Poliglote, Banyu Dewi is out of Bennetta, who produced the dual Gr. 3 Grosser Preis der Dortmunder Wirtschaft victor Banyumanik to Sadler’s Wells’ three-parts-brother Perugino and last season’s Italian Listed victress Bella Amica to Sadler’s Wells’ son Black Sam Bellamy. By Top Ville out of the German Champion Three-Year-Old Filly Indigene (Hard to Beat), Bennetta is also the grandam of the listed scorers Bali’s Guest (Be My Guest) and Beiramar and the Gr. 2 Diana-Trial second Bolivia, the latter duo being by Monsun. Banyu Dewi has a yearling filly by Azamour.
