DENALI RAISED & SOLD GLOBAL POWER FIGHTS OFF FIELD TO WIN SUSSEX AT DELAWARE

Global Power made his first start at Delaware Park a memorable one as the 4-year-old son of Pulpit held off Slip and Drive and Abilio to win the $100,250 Sussex Stakes July 21. The victory was the colt’s first in a stakes.

Ridden by Abel Castellano Jr. in the 1 1/16-mile turf stakes and carryng 117 pounds, Global Power maintained about a two-length margin into the stretch. Challenged in midstretch by Slip and Drive on the inside and Abilio on the outside, Global Power held off the threat to defeat Slip and Drive by a neck. Abilio finished a half length behind the runner-up.
 
Utley, the 6-5 favorite, raced in fifth for most of the way and finished fifth.
 
Time for the race was 1:41.62 after splits of :24.13, :47.83, 1:11.47, and 1:35.47. Following Abilio were London Lane, Utley, Sleepless Knight, and Roman Tiger, who had won the Tampa Bay Stakes (gr. IIIT) in February.
 
Owned by Luch Racing Stable and trained by Tom Amoss, Global Power collected $60,000 in the Sussex while improving his record to 5-2-1 from 13 starts with earnings of $199,745.

Bred in Kentucky by Hidden Creek Farm, Global Power is out of the Storm Cat mare Hidden Cat. Denali sold Global Power at the 2009 Keeneland September Sale for $230,000.
