Denali Sales Grads run 2nd, 3rd in the Smarty Jones S.

The 2014 edition of the Smarty Jones S., a qualifying race for the Kentucky Derby, was full of Denali Sales Grads. Running 2nd to winner Tanzanite Cat was WALT, a Run Away and Hide colt out of Miracle Mile that sold for only $22K at Keeneland January in 2012. Walt maintained a short lead over the winner until mid-stretch, but he held on well to finish second, boosting his earnings to $79,377. Rounding out the trifecta was Denali Raised Sales Grad COASTLINE, a highly thought of Speightstown colt from the barn of Mark Casse, owned by John Oxley. Coastline was a $190K yearling at Keeneland September in 2012. He broke from post 10 and ran wide throughout, finishing 3rd and boosting his earnings to $105,779. Denali Sales Grad DENALI RAHY RULER ran within striking range three wide and was roused turning for home but tired in the stretch to finish an unlucky 8th.
