FREEDOM STAR made her dirt debut memorable capturing the Azeri S.-G3 by nearly 4 lengths. The four-year-old mare was second earlier this year in the El Encino-G2 at Santa Anita. In the Azeri she got a clear lead, shook off a challenge after six panels in 1:12.93 and opened up late to win handily. FREEDOM STAR was bred by Dr. Kolybabiuk and sold by Denali at the 2007 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $220,000 to her owner George Krikorian.
In the previous race, a maiden special weight, the three-year-old FAYOUM, by Friends Lake colt out of Katie Be Quick won the six furlong test by over three lengths. Bred by Brereton C. Jones, the Zayat Stables colt was offered by Denali at the 2008 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
