Breeders’ Cup Shines a Bright Light on Sales Graduates

Thursday, November 04, 2021

Denali Stud sales graduates, along with a few raised and grazed on the farm, are going into the biggest weekend in horse racing with high hopes and good shots at a Breeders’ Cup trophy. The entries also include a few with strong chances in undercard stakes races at Del Mar. A few highlights include:

Malathaat –  Saturday, Gr. I Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff

The Kentucky Oaks winner, and arguable leader of the 3YO filly division, made a name for herself with brilliant performances in the nation’s most important races. The daughter of Curlin has never been off the board in her seven race career, with the sole blemish to her record coming from a heartbreaking loss by a head at Saratoga in the Gr. I CCA Oaks. She was a $1,050,000 purchase by the Shadwell Estate from the 2019 Keeneland September consignment.

Arrest Me Red – Saturday, Gr. I Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint

A homebred for the Jacksons of Barbaro fame, the colors of Lael Stable are once again on the biggest stage with this hard trying son of Pioneerof the Nile. Already a two time stakes winner in New York by the time the colt arrived at Belmont Park for his start in the Belmont Turf Sprint Invitational (Gr. III), he went off the favorite and ran to the confidence from the betting public. He enters the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint as one of three 3YOs; likely favorite and other 3YO, Golden Pal, only one away from him in the gate.

Zestful – Saturday, Gr. II Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance

An undercard entry, and a former claimer who worked his way into the graded stakes ranks with age and experience, this son of Ghostzapper was a $100,000 Fasig-Tipton Summer Selected HORA sales graduate back in 2018. He is entered in the Gr. II Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance S. which is set to go as the second race on the Saturday undercard.

Superstition – Friday, Senator Ken Maddy S.

The $850,000 Keeneland September sales graduate back in 2018 makes another start in stakes company and this time on the Breeders’ Cup undercard. The daughter of Ghostzapper is coming off a strong work and will be breaking from an outside post for trainer Richard Mandella against a field of nine others.

Phoenix Thoroughbreds – Double Thunder & Tiz the Bomb

We would like to extend our best wishes to one of our clients, Phoenix Thoroughbreds, as their entries Double Thunder and Tiz the Bomb take on the Gr. I TVG Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Gr. I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, respectively. Both will be racing on Friday.

As always, we consider it a privilege to sell for and represent some of the best breeders in the country. We extend our best wishes for a safe trip to all of our clients and buyers. We looked forward to seeing everyone at Fasig-Tipton November for the Night of the Stars and at Keeneland for the November Breeding Stock sale. If you didn’t buy a Saturday Afternoon horse from us, we might be selling the mare you’ll get one from as a breeder! Make sure to stop by and see the consignments.
