Bred by Candy Meadows Farm and Cheyenne Stable and sold by Denali at the 2009 Keeneland September sale for $145,000, the two-year-old Johannesburg colt PETER MARTINS did not disappoint, winning his racing debut at Newmarket for owner Earle Mack. The Jeremy Noseda trainee was sent off at 2-1, breaking smartly he stalked the early leader before being eased off the rail. Soon in command he lengthened clear up the rising ground to record an authoritative five length win. “I think he has talent and he’s a horse I’ve liked for a long while,” trainer Noseda commented. “I still think he’s a fair way away from where he can be in the end, but that was a nice introduction. He’s a good stamp of a horse and has lots of scope—he’s naturally strong and is a lovely athlete who has done things very naturally from the start…we might think about G3 Acomb S. at York Aug. 17. We’ll get him home and see how he is, but it might be we look for another novice race and if that goes well think about the G2 Champagne S. at Doncaster Sept. 11.”
