Denali Stud is pleased to offer some great yearling prospects this year during the 2019 Fasig- Tipton Saratoga Sale on August 5th and 6th. Be sure to stop by on your way through to view our selection this year! We have nine yearlings cataloged in this sale. We will also be offering 18 yearlings in the New York Bred Sale on August 11th and 12th. Come visit us at barn 7A! We would love to show you your next “Saturday Afternoon Horse.”

The Saratoga Sale is known as the sale industry’s premier auctions. Some of the greatest yearling stock is put on display each year, and high dollar bidders compete for the potential of snagging a future champion from the stage. Even though Denali’s consignment is modest in size, we have been able to attract high end buyers to the show ring interested in our yearlings. We are very grateful for the clients we get to sell for as we are a reflection of them. Years of confidence and trust has allowed us a slot in the top consignors list.

In recent years Denali Stud has sold million dollar sale toppers such as Grade 1, Belmont Stakes Champion TAPWRIT for $1.2 million in 2015. We followed in 2016 with a $1.45 million Medaglia d’Oro filly, and in 2017 a colt by Hall of Famer Curlin, who co-topped the sale at $1 million. With a track record of Saratoga success, we look forward to this year’s sale and some more “Saturday Afternoon Horses” up for grabs on that stage.

Conrad Bandoroff takes some time to reflect upon the upcoming sale and our consignment, “as we head up to Saratoga, we are very excited about the group we are taking this year. We feel they are a group of nine impressive physicals, with good families and by some of the best stallions in the country. Equally as impressive as some of the physicals, we are proud and very grateful to our clients whom we get to represent in the likes of Pin Oak Stud, Stonestreet, Three Chimneys, Don Alberto, and Bradley Thoroughbreds.”

“We have two star fillies by Ghostzapper who may have the best American filly in training G1 winning Guarana. The first being hip 53 out of Lovely Daughter, this gorgeous filly is a three-quarter sister to G1 winner Starship Truffles. Our second Ghostzapper filly on offer hip 136, is a stellar first foal out of a half -sister to multiple graded stakes winner Overheard from one of Pin Oak Stud’s best families.

Curlin is the leading sire in the country by stakes winners and graded stakes winners. We will be offering two colts by this stallion. Hip 153 is a Curlin colt first foal out of Chilean Champion mare Wapi. We also have hip 159 on offer, another Curlin colt out of Yes Liz. The Curlin—Yes Its True cross is prolific with 50% graded stakes winners to Starters.”

The Saratoga Sale has always been an important and integral part of Denali even before the founding of our farm in 1990. Before entering consignment himself, Craig worked for Fasig- Tipton in New York assisting former general manager Larry Ensor and inspecting yearlings. The Bandoroff family holds the sales in Saratoga near and dear to their hearts. The first time Craig and Holly attended Saratoga was the first year they were married. From then on, and numerous connections in the business, it prompted the lease of land that would in turn become Denali Stud.  These experiences set the tone for attending Saratoga as it’s a special event to take place each year.

Numerous factors take play in prepping these yearlings for the sale. It’s not as easy a feat as people may assume. It takes lots of time, attention to detail, record keeping, inspections to assess growth and development monthly, shows for the sales agency, a detailed and regimented diet and nutritional plan, daily grooming and bathing as well as a scheduled exercise routine involving both hand-walking and use of an exercise machine. The preparation of these yearlings usually turns full force around 60 days before the sale. It’s paramount that they leave the farm in their best shape and health.

“It takes a special horse to jump through all the hoops and be successful in Saratoga, and we are extremely careful in our decision making process. We feel this is as strong of a group as we have taken up there in our many years selling in Saratoga and are looking forward to presenting them.”

We are excited to bring you this wonderful group of yearlings this year, and look forward to seeing you on the sale grounds! Good luck to all of the consignors and buyers out there during their big moment, and thank you to our wonderful Denali team for all you do throughout the year to care for and prep these beautiful yearlings into confident adults.

See you at barn 7A!
