STORMBERG, OUT OF DENALI’S MOST FAMOUS RESIDENT
In the second race at Santa Anita, a $61,830, an allowance optional for 3yo/up, run down the hill, at about 6 1/2fT, in a final time 1:12, over a course listed as firm, 4-year old STORMBERG came flying down the hill for the one length score. By Storm Cat, out of Serena’s Song {Ch. 3yo Filly, MGISW, $3,283,388, by Rahy), STORMBERG is a full-brother to Sophisticat, G1SW-GB, GSW & G1SP-Fr, G1SP-Ire, $444,231; Grand Reward, GSW-US, MGSP-GB & Ire, $548,995; and Schramsberg, GSW, $394,626. STORMBERG has really come into his own since joining the Mike Mitchell barn. The chestnut broke through in his seventh career start–first for Mitchell–going down the hill Feb. 24, then came within a head of getting his picture taken in an allowance on Mar. 10. Favored at 9-5 here, he was last of six through a half mile in :43.47, was swung out widest of all for the stretch drive, and came flying down the center of the course to register a one-length tally over Kumiva (Giant’s Causeway). STORMBERG is also a sibling to Serena’s Tune (Mr. Prospector), MSW, $337,260; Arbitrate (Deputy Minister), SP, $195,390; and Harlington (Unbridled), GSW, $370,000. Bred by The Robert & Beverly Lewis Trust and sold by Denali at the 2009 Keeneland September sale for $450,000 to Jack Sims, STORMBERG has a lifetime record: 9-2-2-0, $93,459.
